How to Give a Constructive Critique
1. What are the two main ideas of "What is a critique"?
The two main ideas are to find faults in the argument and to create an “informed” opinion, not a personal opinion.
2. What is the minimum length a critique requires?
The minimum length is 4 sentences.
3. What are the three elements that go into a constructive critique? What are a few questions that resonate with you and why?
The three elements are to remove distractions, judge the composition, and judge the content. A question that resonated with me was “Is this image memorable? Will I remember the image a month, or even a year from now?” because this is a question i never really consider when taking pictures or looking at pictures.
4. When delivering a critique “sandwich” what are the 4 elements?
The 4 elements are your initial response, positive feedback (top bun), negative feedback (meat), and another note of positive feedback (bottom bun).
5. What are things to consider in the difference between an online critique and a face to face critique?
When giving an online critic, it is hard to point out specific details of what you like and dislike and the critic is usually shortened. Oral feedback is much more personal and detailed.

Formal Critic
In this image, the men seem to be in a forest, but they are dressed very formally. There is a forth man in the bottom left side of the photo as well. There is blur in the top right corner of the photo, and the photo is also in black in white.
This photo portrays the leaders in this battle to be calm and strong. They look very serene, instead of frantic and worried as someone would be while facing a battle. The men also have very stern looks on their faces, maybe to demonstrate their leadership. Each of the men are standing kind of farther apart from each other, showing maybe there disagreement in ideas or a plan. IT also looks like the solider is looking to Lincoln to say something or maybe he wants to say something to Lincoln. Within this photo, there is a sense of balance between the bodies of the men and emphasis on Lincoln, as he is in the center of the photo. There are a lot of elements within the photo as well, causing the photo to have a large volume. I see the usage of the rule of thirds (the two men next to Lincoln), grain, and lines (the tent). There is also a tonal contrast between the black and white in the photo. The photo was taken in a shallow depth of field. There is shape formed with the triangle. The photo has leading lines, leading to Lincoln. There is blur within the trees in the top right corner. |
