Formal Critics- Cindy Sherman
1. This is a photo, in black and white, or a woman. She appears to be in the city, around tall buildings. She also has an odd look on her face and is not looking directly into the camera. The woman is dessed in very old-fasion clothing.
2. The expression on the woman's face leads me to belive that she is annoying and possibly looking for something. She looks very irratated as well. The photo leaves me curious to what she is looking at/for. 3. Some elements of the photo include loop lighting on the right side of the subjects face. The photo is shot at a point of view that is below the subject. There is also shallow depth of field which can be identified by the out of focus background. |
1. This a black and white photo of a woman. She is in a kitchen with an apron on. She is looking to the right side of the camera and has a very wide-eyed expression on her face.
2. Because of the expression on her face, I think that the woman is annpyed by something. She also looks slightly shocked of surprised. The look in her eyes is also haunting and a little scary. 3. In this photo, there is soft loop lighting on the left side of the girls face. There is also a shallow depth of field, which can be seen by blur of the pot handle in the foreground. There is also slight grain and texture in the picture. |
Formal Critic- Paolo Roversi
1. This is a photo of an african american woman. She is wearing a gold head piece and necklace. She has a stright face and is looking ot the left side of the photo. She is also wearing a balck dress.
2. Because she is looking off to the side, I feel that she is curious or looking for something. I feel very calm looking at the photo. The photo is also a little sad beause of the dark tone/colors. 3. There is the use of broad lighting, as one side of the girls face is more torwards the camera. There is also leading lines, created by the girl's eyes. This photo also uses simplicity, by the plain background. |
1. The photo is of a girl with etreme hair and make up. She has a straight look on her face and is looking directly into the camera. The picture itself is a little blurry.
2. The woman in this photo looks very serious and a little indimidating. The way she is looking into the camera is haunting and very stern. 3. There are elements like loop lighting on the right side of the model's face. There is also blur, caused by eaither camera shake or the model moving. There is also a shallow depth of field. |
1. This is a black and white photo of a woman. She has bare shoulders and an epressionless face. She also has short hair and is looking directly into the camera.
2. The model in this picture looks very innocent and vulnerable. Becuase the photo is so simple, it leaves me very calm. The model also looks very stern at the same time. 3. This photo has elements of shallow depth of field. There is also loop lighting in the left side of the model's face. The photo also has grain and texture. Lastly, there is simplicity becuase of the black background. |
Formal Critics- My photos
1. This is a black and white photo of a young girl with her hair tied up. She is outside, with the top of a house in the background. The girl looking to the left of the frame.
2. This image and Sherman's image are both shot from below the subject. The subject in both images are looking off to the side, creating leading lines/intrigue. They both have a black and white filter, which I added on Light Room. 3. This image has shallow depth of field, which can be identified by noticing the blurry background. It also has a tonal balance between the amount of black and white in the photo. There is also leading lines, created by subject's eyes looking off to the left. |
1. This is a black and white picture of a girl. She is in the kitchen. She also has her eyes looking down and away from the camera.
2. Both Sherman's image and mine are in black and white. They both have a grainy texture, which i added in my photo in Light Room by increasing the grain scale. Both pictures have the subject lined up using the "rule of thirds": Sherman's subject is on the right hand side while mine is on the left. 3. In this photo, there is a slight shallow depth of field, as the window's blinds are a little blurry. There is also a large amount of grain/noise, which are like little specs on the photo. There is also rule of thirds created by the subject standing on the far left of the photo. |
1. This photo is of a wound girl with dark make up on. She is in front of a solid, blue background and has a shadow caste behind her. She is looking off the the left side of the photo and has a serious, straight face.
2. To mimic Roversi's photo, i took a portrait styled shot of my subject, cutting the body out of the photo. I also instructed my model to look off to the left side of the picture, to create leading lines. Both photos also have a solid colored background to simplify the photo. 3. The picture has loop light on the subject's face, with broad light on the side of the face. There is also leading lines created with the subjects eyes looking off to the side. There is also the elements of shadow behind the subjects body. |
1. This a photo of a young girl with dark make up on her eyes. The photo is motion/blur in the girl's hair. There is also a plain background. The photo has been shot in a portrait style.
2. This photo is similar is Roversi's photo because of the tint that i added to the picture. I tried to match the lighting/color of his photo by adding a lot of contrast and a blue-ish hue to the photo. I also has my subject move o mimic the movement in Roversi's. 3. This photo has blur in the models hair and face. Their is also very light loop lighting on the subjects face. This photo also has a sense of balance, as the subject is near the center of the photo and there isn't anything else i the picture. |
1. This black and white photo is of a young girl. It is a portrait styled photo with a plain background. The girl in the photo is expressionless and is looking directly into the camera.
2. To mimic Roversi's photo, I made this photo black and white. I also increased the highlights of the photo and made the shadows darker to match the photo's style. The model was also positioned to create a loop light on her face, like Roversi's photo. I also added grain to the photo to match the texture. 3. This picture has loop, almost Rembrant, lighting on the models face. There is also a simplicity and balance to the photo because of the simple background and lined up position of the models body/face to the camera. There is also grain and texture in the photo, which can be identified by the specs on the photo. |
