The camera obscura is the product of letting light through a small hole and the image it then projects onto a flat surface. In order for it to work, you need to be in a dark space and should be letting in a larger amount of light through a small hole. The image that is projected onto the surface is completely reversed: upside down and flipped. This is because light travels in a straight line. You can use lense to sharpen the projected image as desired.
Personal camera obscura
To make my own camera obscura out of a cereal box, I first the box in half. To create a straight line, I traced where I wanted to cut with a rule and cut with an Xacto Knife. Then I measured and taped part of a plastic bag to the inside of one of the cereal box pieces. Next I taped the two pieces of the box back together, lining them up as exact as possible. I then cut out a rectangle on the top side of the box, making sure not to let any extra light in. Lastly, i cut out a square to fix the size of a piece of a tin can that I cut out. I taped that piece to the cut out square and poked a pin hole using a push pin.
